There are only two forces that drive us: fear and love. All of our motivations are based in either one or the other.
Anxiety, sadness, anger, shame, contempt, disgust — all boil down to fear … fear of the unknown, fear of loss, fear of threat, fear of judgment, fear of exposure to that which is considered vile, fear of being disliked.
Love is simpler: it makes us happy.
When we are afraid to love, we rob ourselves. When we are afraid to be loved, we rob others.
